Sunshine Coast wife, mother and businesswoman Rachael Golinski and her young daughters Willow, Sage and Starlia will be farewelled at Drysdale Funeral Chapel, Tewantin, Queensland this Sunday 18th March. The four perished in a tragic Boxing Day 2011 home fire that left husband and father Matt Golinski fighting for his life with third-degree burns to 40% of his body.
Sadly, Matt is not well enough to attend the funerals and remains in the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital where he is receiving ongoing treatment for his burns. Matt’s father, Keith Golinski said the decision to proceed with funeral arrangements was made in consultation with his son.
“With Matt’s blessing, we have decided to organise a time to say goodbye to Rachael and the girls this Sunday, some eleven weeks after the tragedy, Keith said.
“It is a very unusual and unfortunate set of circumstances given that Matt cannot attend but he intends to hold his own private ceremony when he is well enough to leave hospital.”
Keith said that Sunday’s funeral arrangements would provide an opportunity for friends and family to pay their respects in their own time, with the funeral chapel open for three and a half hours and mourners encouraged to visit throughout the day – rather than attend a traditional funeral service.
Photos and special mementos of the family will be displayed and music piped throughout the chapel. Butterflies will be released at regular intervals throughout the day.
A private, closed service will be held on the same day for immediate family and invited friends. A private cremation will follow.
