Mayor Mark Jamieson said council’s Community Events and Celebrations Strategy highlighted the importance of enhancing quality of life and contributing to a sense of place.
“We have worked with local communities to fill gaps and optimise opportunities in the regional events calendar,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“The Sundayze Series gives the community an opportunity to experience free live entertainment and activities across the region.
“The diverse program of events features a range of entertainment styles and the Opera in the Park concert promises lovers of opera and others a memorable afternoon by renowned Sunshine Coast-based Operatif! and their accomplished singers.
“Locals and visitors are in for a real treat when they head to the picturesque setting of Nelson Park at Alexandra Headland from 2pm to 4pm.
“People are encouraged to pack a picnic, rug, folding chair and organise a group of friends and family and take advantage of this free event.”
Soprano, Jennifer Parish said Operatif! is delighted to have been invited to present this concert.
“It is such a great opportunity to allow people to try opera and we really love introducing new people to the joys of this art form particularly children who are often enthralled when hearing big voices and of course the gowns and tails we wear are a novelty too!”, she said.
“Singing at the event will be soprano Jennifer Parish, mezzo Clarice Williams, tenor Dominic Walsh, baritone Stewart Cameron and accompanist John Woods. As a bonus, there will also be a performance by Ryaed Owens, a budding concert pianist also from the Sunshine Coast.
“Ryaed will play some stunning Chopin and Rachmaninov making full use of the beautiful grand piano which will grace the stage. Those who come along for this enjoyable afternoon will certainly be getting plenty of thrills and plenty of variety as well.
“The program will include highlights from popular operas including Rigoletto, Carmen, La Traviata and The Tales of Hoffman, together with hits from musicals including The Sound of Music, The Man of La Mancha, The Merry Widow, Carousel and The Secret Garden.”
