The Year 4’s at Caloundra Christian College are counting down the days until their first ever “real” camp next week. They’ll be leaving Monday morning, and will spend three activity filled days at QCCC Sunshine Coast, at Mapleton. From the Giant Swing and the paddle boats, through to Archery, canoeing, orienteering and swimming, the children are excited about it all. And on the third day, they’ll walk over to Kondalilla Falls.
But it’s the nights that have them the most eager with anticipation. For most, it will be the first time sleeping away from their parents for an extended period of time. “Last year, the Year 3 camp was a sleepover at school. We all set up tents and had a wonderful time,” said Mrs Julie Lockyer, Year 4 teacher.
“This year, as it’s the children’s first time away, they keep on checking and double checking with me what they need to bring, what they need to wear, and so on. They’re just so super-excited,” she added. “In fact, one parent told me that her daughter had packed her suitcase a week ago, in preparation!” The girls look forward to being in a dorm together, while the boys will sleep in cabins.
