The federal Leader of the Palmer United Party and Member for Fairfax, Clive Palmer, is encouraging local sporting groups to nominate for the Australian Government’s Sports Achievement Awards.
Mr Palmer said the awards recognise outstanding sporting performances, achievements and contributions by community members.
“I encourage the Sunshine Coast community to promote the participation, achievements or contributions of competitors, coaches, officials or volunteers of our sporting community,” he said.
“While our athletes may perform on the field and achieve exceptional results, it is important that we also recognise the people behind the scenes, which is why I am pleased to see these awards also encourage the nominations of athletes as well as others involved.”
The sport achievement awards recognise a number of aspects of the sporting community including:
– Individual or team achievement, such as national or state team selection, regional/state/national success, or high level single performance (eg Australian or State record);
– Community sport contribution by individuals, including coaches, referees/umpires and administrators with a minimum of five years’ service; or
– Contribution to sport by schools, community groups (eg Lions, Rotary) or media organisations to a particular sporting event, facility or for continuous support over a minimum of two years.
The Australian Government Sport Achievement Award was introduced in 2002 to recognise outstanding sporting performances right across Australia.
Nominations with supporting evidence can be submitted to the Fairfax Electorate Office, PO Box 1978, Sunshine Plaza, Qld 4558 or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
