The Sunshine Coast Cycling Reference Group hosted Mayor Mark Jamieson and Cr Rick Baberowski, Cr Chris Thompson and Cr Christian Dickson on a bike ride in Maroochydore this week.
Transport Strategy Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski is Chair of the Cycling Reference Group that has members from cycling groups, touring clubs and local cycling businesses, plus representatives from council and Department of Main Roads and Transport.
“The Cycling Reference Group represents the 60,000 people who ride on the Coast every week,” Cr Baberowski said.
“The Group is coordinated by Sunshine Coast Council and their role is to provide input into council’s cycling policy and strategy and work on actions to promote the role of cycling as a vital part of the Coast transport system and increase opportunities for safe and enjoyable cycling.
“We provided our locally elected members with an opportunity today to experience firsthand the benefits and potential for cycling in the vicinity of the Maroochydore City Centre and along the coastal corridor.
“We talked about how the provision of world standard cycling facilities can help attract high-value and innovative business talent to the Sunshine Coast.
“Cycling is particularly relevant for the development of the Maroochydore City Centre as a vibrant and enjoyable place to work and live.
“Today’s cycle was a great way for all participants to get a better picture of councils past and proposed investment in active transport infrastructure.”
