Creative minds from across the Coast and hinterland are gathering at the Coolum Civic Centre from 6.30pm on Saturday 15th October.
Imagine That! is the first large-scale event for the Sunshine Coast’s own Creative Alliance, with highly-visual presentations from creative professionals in the popular Pecha-Kucha format, Coast fashion designs on the catwalk, a feast of painters, weavers, sculptors and more on display, live music and live art, all interwoven with theatre performances.
“The calibre is outstanding,” said Creative Alliance president Maggie Third. “We encourage all people who appreciate good design and creativity to join us for the night and help make the Alliance strong.
“The Creative Alliance is keen to support development of the creative economy here on the Coast. The creative industries sector is becoming an economic driver elsewhere and we believe that many local professionals are already exporting their work and tapping into new markets.
“By bringing people together to connect we see great opportunities for collaboration and the generation of inspired new directions.”
Ardleigh Cleveland, who operates the gallery of the same name at the Hyatt Regency Coolum and is deeply passionate about promoting our local artists, will be showcasing a selection of the many Sunshine Coast artists and designer/makers she represents.
“Over the years, many like minded people have formed groups with the aim of getting the secret out: that the Sunshine Coast is brimming over with the most amazing “creatives” in every possible medium!” she said.
“These enterprising groups have wanted to put the Sunshine Coast firmly on the map as being a major hub for creative practice… creative industry… creative community. Call it what you may…. they’ve come and they’ve gone. Until now! Now there is the Sunshine Coast Creative Alliance… and the energy is buzzing.”
Exhibited work will include: paintings by Tony Wellington, Paula Higgins, Wyn Vogel & Leigh Joyce; glass by Chris Pantano; ceramics by Valerie Willy, Carol Forster & Anthony B. Harrison; bronzes by Maree Lawrence & Jane Bailey; and jewellery by Sue Harle, Brian Wood, Pauline Daniel & Kate Terton.
Joining Ardleigh and the many artists and performers will be local Coolum artist Gerrard King, who’s brilliantly surreal and imaginative artwork often leaves viewers with a lingering sense of wonderment.
“I am thrilled to be included in the Creative Showcase, as I am 100% behind furthering awareness of the great scope of talent we have here on the Sunshine Coast,” Gerrard said.
“In my opinion, the Sunshine Coast needs more events such as this, to make people aware of the creative bounty lying right under their noses. We need to foster a culture of awareness and appreciation for the local arts, and I am honored to be part of that culture.”
He will be joined by fellow Coolum resident and flamenco guitar genius, Andrew Veivers. Described as one of Australia’s finest Spanish Guitarists, Andrew Veivers draws on a wide range of musical influences to evoke the sensual and mesmerising sounds of the Spanish guitar in all of its guises.
