In celebration of Anzac Day and in partnership with Voices on the Coast, Sunshine Coast Council presents a night with author Pamela Rushby at Maroochydore Library on Thursday, April 24 from 6 to 7.30pm.

Born in Queensland and still residing in Brisbane, Pamela is a writer of all trades. She’s written everything from children’s books to television scripts and commercials. Her children’s and young adult fiction titles include Flora’s war, The horses didn’t come home and When the hip chicks went to war just to name a few.

As long as Pamela can remember, she’s been a reader. And ever since, at the age of six, encountering a photograph of Enid Blyton seated at her desk in an English country house, dogs at her feet, probably engaged on rattling out another Famous Five adventure, she decided that she wanted to be a writer.

She achieved this after taking the long way round of working as an advertising copywriter, a publicity officer and a pre-school teacher, studying ancient history, journalism and art history and writing and producing for television.

Join Pamela as she talks about writing faction – the art of mixing fiction and fact in your novel. Copies of Pamela’s books will be available for purchase on the night.

For more details visit your local Sunshine Coast Library in person, call 1300 LIBRARY or visit council’s library website.

Literary lunch on the Coast with Steve Bisley

Sunshine Coast 30th August 2013 by View News

Literary lunch on the Coast with Steve Bisley

author_bisley_book_coverIn a coup for the region, Sunshine Coast Council’s library service invites you to join one of Australia’s favourite actors, Steve Bisley for a literary lunch on Tuesday 3 September at noon at The Rump House, Tewantin as part of the national Get Reading campaign.

Steve began his film career alongside fellow NIDA graduate Mel Gibson in Mad Max and found himself in regular demand, appearing in a diverse range of films, theatre productions and television series.

Steve has now brought his past into vivid life with a classic memoir of an Australian childhood in the sixties. His book, Stillways, is about a happy-go-lucky larrikin boy growing up in a simpler and more innocent time. But woven through the sunlit memories a darker thread runs through Steve’s story, of a father who would take out his frustrations by savagely belting his young children, a struggling mother who’d do anything to protect her kids, and a young boy irrevocably marked by his father’s anger. Endearing, funny, honest and unflinching – this memoir will become an Australian classic.

The two course lunch is only $32 and includes refreshment on arrival. Bookings and pre-payment are essential through council’s library website or phone 1300 LIBRARY.
