With the footy season about to start McDonald’s Sunshine Coast licensees today reminded football fans to sign up with their local Sunshine Coast Football club.

Late last year McDonald’s Sunshine Coast restaurants announced a $300,000 sponsorship deal with Sunshine Coast Football to support more than 6,000 local football players at junior and premier league levels.

McDonald’s licensee Gary Binet said he encouraged all young customers to sign up to their local football team this weekend ready for the start of the season.

“Through the partnership, clubs can keep fees low so everyone can participate and get involved. We’ve also provided grants to help cover the cost of new playing kits, training and match day equipment and other club-related materials. This is a great year for kid’s to get into football.

“McDonald’s is a sponsor of this year’s FIFA World Cup in South Africa and we’re running a Player Escort Program where at least two kids from Queensland will lead out players when Australia plays Ghana on 19 June,” Gary said.

Sunshine Coast Football Chairman Garry Brown said he was expecting the football code to get an even bigger following this year because of the World Cup. He hoped that lots of people would want to get involved and follow their football heroes.

“We will definitely be encouraging all of our teams to sign up to the McDonald’s Player Escort Program,” Mr Brown said.

The Coast’s five McDonald’s licensees are no strangers to supporting local communities, helping to fund or support groups and events such as Noosa Nippers, Little Athletics, Wide Bay Swimming and Clean Up Australia Day.
