The University of the Sunshine Coast Little Athletics Centre and sponsor Investa Property Group are preparing to farewell 17 young sportspeople bound for the Little Athletics State Championships held in Townsville from 26-28 March.

USC Little Athletics Coach Jay Stuurop said team members and parents have been working tirelessly in preparation for this event and it was exciting for the athletes to test their best against the competition from around the state.

“We are thrilled to see such a strong representations from the club at this year’s state competitions and it presents a wonderful opportunity for club members to gain valuable competition experience,” Mr Stuurop said.

The young athletes will be testing their skills across the complete spectrum of events including hurdles, sprints, distance, throws and jumps, and are hoping to bring home a collection of medals for their efforts.

Mr Stuurop said there are many team members to keep an eye on including track stars Shannon O’Dempsey (under 14 girls) a national hurdler and regional high jump and triple jump champion, and sprinter Brodie Modini (under 12 boys) who is taking on the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m events.

“Also looking to add state titles to their recent haul of regional records are shot put and long jump star Jack Payne (under 10 boys) and fellow shot put and discus team mate Renee Fassolis (under 10 girls).

“We have many other outstanding athletes competing next weekend and they too have a good chance at bringing home a medal or two,” Mr Stuurop said.

Mr Stuurop said that support from sponsors such as Investa Property Group ensured club members have the chance to train with the best equipment, which allows them reach their full potential and compete against the best in the state.

“Investa’s continued support is important for the ongoing development of our athletes and gives all members a head start as they strive for success.”

Investa Property Group’s Michael Hopkins said that as an active developer, it is important for the company to partner with local programs that give back to the Sunshine Coast community.

“We want to be able to assist these up and coming young athletes to reach their personal goals and give them every chance to succeed,” Mr Hopkins said.
