Maleny Redbacks’ 5th Division put on masterful batting display in the local derby against the Glasshouse Rangers on Saturday at the Aub Cork Oval, amassing a huge total of 6 for 325 off their allotted 40 overs. Batting first, Maleny opener Ryan Cosgrove set about building a big score against a quality, but somewhat erratic Rangers’ attack. Fellow Redbacks top order batsmen also assisted, with Rob Wilkes scoring a classy 43 and new dad Jason Brittle smashing his way to a quick fire 35. Cosgrove then upped the tempo hitting the Rangers’ attack frequently out of the park to be out agonisingly close to his century on 95. Chasing quick runs in the dying overs the Redbacks’ middle order ensured there would be a huge score for the Rangers to chase, with Dan Hand (35 no) and David Griffiths(35 no)finishing the innings off.

The Glasshouse Rangers’ batsmen started their innings making their intentions clear but were quickly four wickets down with good bowling from Jason Brittle 2 for 42 off 7 and Dave Griffiths 2 for 56 off 7. The Rangers’ middle order then mounted a fight back hitting the Redbacks’ attack all over the park, before an accurate Dan Hand snatched 2 quick wickets and Ben Newman destroyed the rest of the batting with an inspired spell of 3 for 18 off 5. Cosgrove couldn't stay out of the game taking four catches to seal the Kelshan Transport man of the match. The Rangers were all out for a total off 199.

5th Division’s next one dayer is against a white hot Palmwoods Red at Palmwoods.
