A hat trick by Jason Brittle has secured the Hotel Maleny Redbacks’ Senior cricket side a one day victory over the Caboolture Snakes on Saturday.

Brittle had the Snakes struggling early, with a wicket in his second over. In his third over, Brittle tore through the top order, claiming three Caboolture wickets in three balls, to secure a rare hat trick and have the Snakes reeling at 4 for 7.

Caboolture then fought back, in spite of some tight bowling by Krishna Alister (0 for 12 off 7) and Steve Kronk (0 for 9 off 6), to be 4 for 56 at drinks.

After drinks the Snakes resurgence continued, despite a wicket to Nick Selman. Brittle waited until that very last ball of the innings to claim his last and secure the impressive figures of 5 for 28 off 8 overs.

Chasing 155 runs for victory, the Redbacks were keen to achieve the total with limited upheaval. Unfortunately three early wickets had Maleny a little shaky at 3 for 24, however opener Rob Wilkes and powerhouse Nick Selman combined to steady the innings and build the total.

Selman dominated the scoring, smashing the Snakes bowling to all parts of the ground, including three sixes in a row. At the other end, Wilkes kept turning the strike over and frustrating the Caboolture bowlers. When the Redbacks reached the required total in the 26th over, Selman had scored an impressive 87(no), while Wilkes had amassed 35(no).

The Redbacks’ next game is a top of the table one day clash against Kenilworth.

The Maleny Redbacks’ Under 10’s produced a stunning bowling performance to claim victory over Glasshouse on Friday night.

With wet conditions making run scoring difficult, the mini Redbacks bowled first and controlled proceeding. Matthew Waudby got Maleny off to great start with a wicket off the first ball, before Tapash Alister and Daniel Scott (1 for 6) followed up with one each.

The Redbacks continued to keep the runs down by claiming regular dismissals, with Tyler Williamson (1 for 3) grabbing a wicket, before Matthew (2 for 2) claimed his second. The Redbacks then dominated the game with Tapash (3 for 3) claiming two more wickets, before Jonty Corkin (3 for 0) claimed three in an over.

When Banjo Bronkhorst (1 for 11) and Blake Luland (1 for 6) each snatched a wicket Glasshouse finished their innings with a total of 47 with 12 dismissals.

The Redbacks entered their batting innings knowing if they didn’t lose wickets they would win the game. The boys were keen to protect their stumps against some quality Glashouse bowling. Man of the match Tyler Williamson was the pick of Maleny’s batters securing a Redbacks victory with some quality stroke play in the final overs.
