Maleny Bowls Notes

Bowls

Last week, Jackpot Pairs/Triples had to be played on Thursday because of the weather. Looks even worse this week at time of writing with rain pelting down and my rain gauge overflowing. Only 10 players were available and the winners were the Triples combination of Di Drew, Eric Drew and John Kapetanic who recorded two wins plus 19. The Touchers went to Ian Hansen, Tony Turner and Curley Petersen and Ian Hansen doubled up by winning the raffle. The Jackpot wasn't won when plus 26 was drawn from the barrel. Friday, 11 players lined up for "Scroungers" and the three division winners to contest the final were Hega Falcongreen, Peter Duffy and Ian Hansen. Peter proved the most consistent to run out the winner by two shots over Ian and Helga.

Gail Turner was the only Sponsors' Prize winner present on Friday evening and won the Supa IGA prize of $120 worth of vouchers. Congratulations Gail. Other winners would have been: Russell Thomas for the Full Monte, Faye Carson for Beechwood Bakehouse, Dick Andrew for Live Life Villages now worth an even $100 this week and Wayne Peters for Lavender Fields in the Mist. Eric Drew was the lucky money-board winner.

As there seems little chance of Bowls Tuesday, please consider playing on Thursday if you are not otherwise engaged. Friday there will be Pairs/Triples depending on numbers followed by a BBQ. Names for both Bowls and the BBQ are needed---there is a sheet at the Club with a space for both Bowls and the BBQ.

The Ladies have held their AGM and elected Office-Bearers for 2010. Congratulations and thanks to the following Ladies for taking on Positions to help our Club. President --- Maggie Crowe, Senior Vice-President --- Sandra Kapetanic, Secretary --- Di Caldicott [ joins husband Gary who will be Men's Secretary] and joint Providors --- Helga Falcongren and Di Drew.

Sunday, February 28th, is the annual visit from the Hibiscus Bowls Club. They arrive around mid-day, have quick refreshments, then join and mix with our Members for an afternoon of Mixed Triples. This is always an enjoyable afternoon so please put your name on the sheet at the Club if you wish to play. Also, if there is sufficient interest, we will commence the Nominated Mixed Triples on Thursday, February 18th. This may have a slightly different format from last year and we will give you more information after Tuesday's Board Meeting. Finally, all the best to the two Teams intending to travel for Bowls on Wednesday. One goes to Coolum to contest Hoteliers' Day and the other to Kilcoy.
