Ironman Champion Matches Surf Skills Against Superstar Seals
This morning two times World Ironman Champion Zane Holmes will test his skills as an elite athlete in a new challenge, a swim with UnderWater World’s playful seal family!
Accustomed to heavy swells, fierce competition and bone crunching shore breaks, a swim with the seals is a welcome change for the recovering champion.
Withdrawing last year due to lower back injury Zane was forced to miss the 2010 Ironman Series, but is hoping to make a full recovery for next year’s season.
‘I’m currently undertaking rehabilitation for my injury and I’m hoping to get back to training in a few months and then back competing in the summer,’’ Zane says.
And what better way to get back into shape than a swim with the cheeky seals at UnderWater World!
After his seal swim Zane will head straight to Alexandra Headland to watch all the action of the Ironman series where he will feature as a special guest commentator.
This is the first time the competition has ever been held at Alexandra Headland so the uncertain beach is sure to shake things up for competitors.
