AS LABOR FAILS TO REPLACE
38 YEAR OLD SCIENCE BLOCK

Federal Member for Fairfax, Alex Somlyay MP said today that he was very disappointed that Nambour High School’s application to replace its 38 year old science building had been rejected by the Rudd Government.

“The school community has been certainly let down by the failure of Labor to fund the new science centre under the Building the Education Revolution Science and Language Centre program.

“Prime Minister Rudd was very happy to make use of his connection with Nambour High when he thought it would win him votes. However, Mr Rudd and fellow ex-Nambour High students, Federal Ministers Wayne Swan and Justine Elliott have failed the Nambour School community.

“While I welcome the funding of Maroochydore State High school, the students of Nambour High School are justifiably and bitterly disappointed at Labor’s failure to upgrade their ageing school buildings.”

Mr Somlyay said that when Mr Rudd and Mr Swan visited the high school in November 2007 the students were told that Labor would address the problems with the aging buildings including the manual arts block.

“This latest rejection of funding has shown that Mr Rudd’s education revolution is nothing more than spin for the people of Nambour,” Mr Somlyay said.
