Electricity consumers facing new tax

Sunshine Coast electricity consumers have been shocked to receive notification that they will be slugged with a new “emissions charge”.

Federal Member Alex Somlyay MP said that this charge is the stark reality of the Federal Government’s proposed Emission Tax.

“I have received complaints from angry customers of Intergral Energy who have been advised this week that they will have to pay an emissions charge in their electricity accounts.

“This is the first visual example of Labor’s emissions tax and it means a further significant increase in charges for local homeowners already reeling from the Bligh Labor Government’s mismanagement of the electricity industry” Mr Somlyay said.

“When I received the complaint from constituents today I referred the matter to the Department of Fair Trading.”

Mr Somlyay said that Intergral Energy have sent a brochure to their customers advising that the inclusion of a new emissions charge was

“to cover our costs of complying with any new CPRS (Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme) that is introduced. We have changed (contract) clauses to allow us to vary charges to customers to recover any new or varied emissions charge we incur.

“Make no mistake; these increased charges will be significant dollars.

Mr Somlyay said that these new charges are a harsh warning to the public how Labor will tax households and deliver nothing to impact Climate Change.

“Without similar action by the rest of the world, Australians will be slugged this extra tax for no global environmental benefit.

“The Bligh Labor Government’s privatisation of the electricity industry has meant higher power bills and Council amalgamations have delivered a 10% hike in local rates. Now local families will have to pay again with additional emission charges on their electricity accounts.”

Dear Mr.Somlyay, I have always been a conservative voter, and have served on polling booths, distributed literature etc. for the Liberal Party, for as long as I can remember. Lately though, I have become disillusioned by the lack of direction that the leaders of the Liberal party have displayed. Some of the issues that I am referring to would be the latest news on the illegal immigrants that are now coming in droves. Another would be this Global Warming "philosophy" that leaders of both major parties seem hell-bent on pushing..for what? There seems to be mounting evidence from leading respected climate scientists, that it is all a scam, one that the media, politicians and the general public seems to be swallowing hook, line and sinker. Where are the open and informative debates, without the personal attacks and finger-pointing? But the biggest and most important issue to me is that this Climate change issue is now going to be the "catalyst" for a Treaty in Copenhagen that may be signed by our Prime Minister, with not so much as a word from either party to the general public, as to it's content, it's consequences (in fact, on an interview with Alan Jones on 2GB the other morning, Mr Turnbull said that he had not even read this treaty!) Oh please, God help us if this craziness goes any further. Mr. Somlyay, I appeal to you to at least look into the last matter that I mentioned (the Copenhagen Treaty) and tell me your stance on this. I will be keen to share this information with other conservative voters that I know. Thank you for your time and look forward to your reply. Karyn Holman
