Queensland Fire and Rescue Service along with Queensland Parks and Wildlife officers will be conducting a large backburning operation in the Mooloolah National Park over the next few hours after a fire broke out in the national park earlier today.

A fire which was believed to have been deliberately lit broke out around 11am. Firefighters and Queensland Parks and Wildlife have been attending to the fire throughout the afternoon.

Favourable conditions have resulted in crews deciding to take the opportunity to burn approximately 3,000 hectares of land over the next few hours as a hazard reduction strategy. Several fire crews will be involved in conducting the burn and are confident that the operation will provide further protection to the community from bushfires over the coming months.

There is no threat to properties in the area and no need for any evacuations. Residents will notice a large amount of smoke in the area over the next several hours.

The backburning operation is being conducted by several experienced fire crews however residents are advised to call triple zero if they feel that their property becomes threatened.
