The Hotel Maleny Redbacks’ senior cricket side have continued their winning form with a one day victory over Burpengary on Saturday.

Batting first the Redbacks got off to an aggressive start, with opener Rob Wilkes dispatching the Burpengary attack to all parts of the ground. Wilkes (42 runs) was joined by Krishna Alister (34 runs) and the pair raced the Redback total to 1 for 98 off 17 overs.

After the drinks break the Redbacks looked to increase the scoring rate and youngster Nick Selman provided the required lift. Selman displayed his talent by dominating the Burpengary attack and regularly dispatching the ball to the boundary. He was finally caught out in the 37th over for a quick fire 69.

After a rapid 28 not out by Steve Kronk in the final overs, Maleny’s innings came to end at 7 for 277 off 40 overs.

The Redbacks entered the field looking to bowl tight and restrict Burpengary’s scoring opportunities. Wickets to Kronk, Selman and Ben Edwards, a run out to Wilkes and unusual Burpengary tactics saw the Redbacks cruise to a comfortable victory, with the visitors only making 135.

The Maleny Redbacks’ Under 10’s team were back in the winners circle with victory over Kenilworth on Friday night.

Batting first the Redbacks piled on the runs, in spite of some outstanding bowling from the Kenilworth side. Jonty Corkin (24 runs), Mitchell English (17 runs), Hamish White (15 runs) and Tyler Williamson (15 runs) were Maleny’s top scorers. After 20 overs the Redbacks had scored an impressive 113 runs.

The Redbacks bowled with accuracy and were sharp in the field cutting down numerous Kenilworth boundary opportunities. Blake Luland, Tyler, Mitchell and Hamish were Maleny’s wicket takers. After 20 overs Kenilworth had scored 107 runs, handing the Redbacks a 6 run victory.

The Redbacks’ Man of the Match was Hamish White for his great bowling and a massive six when batting.
