The Grand Final in the Ladies Competition saw Blackbirds valiantly try to overcome the undefeated Pink Ladies. Pink Ladies got off to a good start, although nerves were evident on both sides. Despite Blackbirds winning the 3rd quarter, Pink Ladies put the result beyond doubt in the 4th and eventually won 22-14. Pink Ladies were missing their star shooter, Narelle Ratcliffe, who was on the Gold Coast playing in the Pan Pacific Masters. However Cath Ferriday and Vanessa Atkinson did the shooting job for ‘Pink’ most admirably. Player of the Finals was Kerri Leddin, and Player of the Year went to Fiona Dempster.
In the Mixed Grand Final, Dolphins (Minor Premiers) were up against Green Team. Green Team came out firing on all cylinders and quickly amassed a handy 5-point lead. The rest of the game was hard fought, with Green Team hanging on to win 28-24. Players of the Finals were Reece Rowlinson and Trudy Busk. Players of the Year were Mick Weston and Ashleigh Ricks.
At the end of the season each team votes for their ‘Most Improved’ and ‘Best & Fairest’ players. The results were:
BEST & FAIREST
It was great to have lots of new younger players this year, and they all developed their skills very quickly. Entry age for the senior competition is 14. The 2011 season will run from late February to mid September. Games are played in the Maleny Indoor Activity Centre at the High School.
