The Haiti Love Festival scheduled for Sunday March 28 at Stockland Park, Kawana has been cancelled.
The long term weather forecast predicts rain on the weekend of the festival and in the interest of putting on a successful event that will raise substantial funds for the people of Haiti, the Committee has decided to cancel the festival event.
The Management Committee is currently considering alternative fundraising options to be scheduled in May.
Lifeline Community Care Sunshine Coast together with the Sunshine Coast Regional Council and a group of individuals and local businesses has joined forces to produce the “HAITI LOVE “concert, in an effort to raise money for those affected by the Haiti Earthquake; this event will be staged at Stockland Park on the 28th March from 12:00 noon to 9:00 pm filled with fun and entertainment for all ages.
Project Manager and Sunshine Coast local Jonas Ramone was born in Haiti and adopted at the age of six to an Australian couple. His mother, brother, sister and niece still live in Haiti. Jonas’ family survived the earthquake; however after a recent trip home he has seen firsthand the devastation that continues to effect the people of Haiti. Aid is bottle necked and is just not getting through to those that need it most.
People are still digging through the debris with their bare hands. Recovery and reconstruction is far from over.
Lifeline Community Care Sunshine Coast has welcomed this event into the fold by auspicing the administration, public liability and publicity side of things. Lifeline hopes to enable Haiti to receive the much needed funds the music festival will raise.
The family friendly event will showcase national/local entertainment, rides, food stalls, raffles and fireworks. The organising committee seeks sponsorship from local business and in-kind support from industry and community groups.
