The Russell Bayne Quintet play the music of the late great French jazz music masters Stephane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt. Russell and the quintet are devotees of the 30'and 40's Quintet of the Hot Club of France even to the extent that guitarist Django only had three fingers on his left hand and Russell plays the same chords with three fingers.as did Django.
Russell was born literally with a guitar in his hands. Schoolwork took 2nd place to the guitar. It wasn't long before he was in the music world of Rock and Roll and played with most of the big names of Australian Rock. Continually learning his craft he was a frontline player with The Ted Mulry Gang ,Rolf Harris, Barry Crocker Normie Rowe as well as international stars Chuck Berry, Shirley Bassey and many other entertainers .The names are too numerous to list them all. Russell has travelled and played in most countries.and continues to enjoy playing, teaching and encouraging young musical talent.
The group's violinist is Hugh Curtis who has been a “fiddle player” as he calls himself performing mainly in Australia with some overseas trips for more than 40 years . In this group Hugh is Stephane Grappelli. blending with Russell to create the distinctive French Quintet sound.
Dave Burrows the group's rhythm guitarist has been creating guitar music for over 30 years and his playing style is reminiscent of the late Charlie Christian and Freddie Green with driving inventive solos.
Andrew Shaw on bass is one of Brisbane's established and busiest bassists who performs regularly in festivals and leading venues. Andrew has played with artists in many diverse forms of music, jazz, tango, cabaret and classical. To round of the group and keep the musicians in time is Pat Robbins.
Pat doubles on drums and vocals and has been performing for over 35 years. He teaches vocals and has successfully taken students to professional level. This will be a great show to listen or dance
