Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell, has hosted the first of what may be many community meetings in a campaign to have the iconic Glass House Mountains included on the National Landscape list.

The National Landscape list is a joint initiative between Tourism Australia and Parks Australia which is focused on celebrating and promoting unique Australian landscapes to international travellers.

"Step one in this process was all about testing the waters with some key people in the local community and to gauge their enthusiasm for the project.

"It was great to see that so many people are willing to get behind this initiative and are already looking ahead to the next step in the process." Mr Powell said.

The next stage involves the creation of a steering committee that will make contact with the relevant authorities and engage indigenous groups, local government and the broader community.

"The committee will need to be a very motivated group of people as they will be responsible for managing this project from the planning stages right through to the implementation." Mr Powell said.

Tourism Sunshine Coast CEO, Mr Russell Mason, was also on hand to lend his support, expertise and encouragement for the project.

"The group will have a lot of work ahead of them but I am confident the project will cement the Glass House Mountain's position as one of the world's unique natural landscapes." Mr Mason stated.

Inclusion on the National Landscape list will benefit the conservation and tourism value of the Glass House Mountains area. There will be opportunities for greater funding and long term planning in the area.

"I am 100% committed to seeing this project through and with the help of the steering committee and the broader community, I am confident of a positive result for the Glass House Mountains." Mr Powell said.
