Year 11 GCCC students embrace the ANZAC spirit as they re-enact challenges as part of the leadership course held last week.
The students of Year 11 at Glasshouse Country Christian College spent a few days early in their school year on an exhausting and challenging leadership course at Emu Gully (Helidon campus) where they were put through their paces in a series of arduous challenges.
These were built round an ‘ANZAC’ theme to bring out the best in the students’ characters of perseverence, courage, mateship and sacrifice. Under the expert leadership of the staff at Emu Gully the students tackled the ‘Western Front’. the ‘Seige of Tobruk’, the ‘Bridge over the River Kwai’ and the ‘Kokoda Trail’.
The staff at Emu Gully put each exercise in the context of the actual experiences of the soldiers who had to endure the real thing, and the quality of character that was shown on the battlefields.
While they were glad to get back to their own beds, the memories, experiences and important lessons learnt will remain for a long time.
