The Caloundra Triathlon on Sunday has received a boost with a further $5000 added to the sponsorship support provided by Caloundra Tourism.

Caloundra Tourism president Mike Wilkinson said his board recognised the further growth of the event following the announcement that the Caloundra Triathlon was now one of two events to host the Triathlon Australia High Performance team.

Mr Wilkinson said the Caloundra Triathlon had continued to grow in popularity with a record field expected to compete on Sunday morning.

“The Caloundra Triathlon is well and truly in the national spotlight and brings with it many benefits in regard to increasing destination awareness and injecting visitor dollars into our regional economy,” Mr Wilkinson said.

The Caloundra Tri is the first race in the new National Elite Race Series as part of the athletes’ domestic season. This new two-race series will provide strong domestic competition for Australia’s open elite, under 23 and junior elite competitors.

The start and finish for competitors is Woorim Park, Golden Beach. The cycling features multiple laps along Landsborough Parade and Churchill Street. The run legs will be along the Coastal Pathway that follows the foreshore then returning along the roadway.
