The parents of James Ashby have issued a counter challenge to Peter Slipper to debate them on matters surrounding the sexual harrassment case brought against Peter Slipper by their son James.
Mr Ashby’s father, Darryl Ashby, says he can no longer stay silent on the issue.
“The last straw was what we read in the papers yesterday and today,” he said.
“Using our family name for cheap political point scoring – namely challenging Mal Brough to a public debate on ‘Ashbygate’.
“It’s our name on that challenge, so it is us he can debate.
“A no-holds-barred, speak-the-truth debate.
“It will shock you.”
Responding to the challenge, Peter Slipper rejected the challenge and once again challenged Mal Brough to debate him over his role in the failed Ashby litigation which was thrown out of the Federal Court by Justice Rares as an abuse of process.
“While as a parent I can understand that parents would want to support their children, this matter is not about Mr and Mrs Ashby but rather about Mal Brough’s fitness for office.
“On this basis it would be entirely inappropriate to debate Mr and Mrs Ashby when it is Mr Brough along with others whose actions have been the subject of adverse findings in the Federal Court by Justice Rares.
“I again challenge Mal Brough to a debate to explain his actions,” Peter Slipper said.
