Annual Report highlights Council achievements

13th December 2011 by Sunshine Coast Council

Sunshine Coast Council released its Annual Report this week – proudly informing the community about strong financial results, wide-ranging successes and advancements achieved during 2010/11.

The Annual Report provides an overview of council’s achievements in implementing its corporate and operational plans, as well as audited financial statements and other issues of public interest.

The report identifies significant achievements that council accomplished in line with its 2010-11 Operational Plan. It also explains how these align with the eight themes of council’s 2009-2014 Corporate Plan.

To complement the release of the Annual Report – downloadable from council’s website and available on CD – the major achievements have been highlighted in a limited-print brochure that will be available in the coming week from customer contact centres.

Corporate Planning and Performance Portfolio Councillor Tim Dwyer said he was proud of council’s performance this year.

“We completed our first Sunshine Coast Community Plan – engaging with the community to set a vision to 2030 – and developed a significant body of work in drafting a new planning scheme for the region which has been submitted to the State Government for review,” Cr Dwyer said.

“We continued to implement the Economic Development Strategy to strengthen the economy by supporting local businesses.

“Council will continue to actively build the economy, protect the environment and enhance our quality of life to allow us to grow as a prosperous region.

“The completion of a number of key strategy documents and plans, stand us in good stead in this regard.

“Council has delivered more than 1,000 capital works projects focused on roads and transport networks, streetscapes, parks, foreshores and waterways – at a value of $149 million.”

Council responsibly managed the effects of the global economic crisis to deliver a balanced operating position for the 2010/11 year. These results were further acknowledged when the Queensland Treasury Corporation lifted council’s credit rating to “strong with a neutral outlook” as well as the achievement of five out of six sustainability indicators.

The Annual Report’s Financial Information section includes the community financial report, a report on operations of council’s commercialised business (Sunshine Coast Airport), and audited financial statements.
